Mais Caminhos and the communities in Rio de Janeiro

Volunteer English teaching in Rio de Janeiro is the perfect way to enjoy the city whilst giving back to a place that will give you so, so much.

We kicked off 2023 with our annual Mais Caminhos summer camp, with 16 children from Rio de Janeiro communities.

Malika and Elisa were volunteers during Mais Caminhos Summer Camp 2020. They share with us their experience being volunteers with kids from the community.

Learn a bit more about Cantagalo and Pavão-Pavãozinho favelas, places not only known for its violence and drug war, but also the great social projects that help the youth of the communities.

People may relate the favelas of Rio de Janeiro with poverty, violence, and danger, but there is much more in Rio’s communities.

James spent a few weeks working as a volunteer in Rio de Janeiro with Mais Caminhos and felt like his life was changed forever. Working with kids from the favelas, James saw and experienced how life can be for those little ones less fortunate in Brazil.

In June, six kids of Mais Caminhos were sent to Europe to spend a month in Slovakia and Poland for the Brave Kids Festival. This event bring together kids and teenagers form all over the world to discuss humanitarian issues and exchange ideas that will help their social development. Our main goal is create a positive transformation in those kids lives, giving them the opportunit to be part of a multicultural festival abroad.

I called him via Skype to find out. Davi speaks Dutch very well, so we conversed in that language. Of course, he speaks Portuguese and Dutch, but he also knows English and understands Spanish well.
