University Transfer Credit for Caminhos Students

University Credit for Portuguese Studies

A large number of Caminhos students are university students. Through our academic partnerships, it is possible to receive official university credit for studying Brazilian Portuguese at Caminhos.

If you are coming from the United States, you may be eligible to earn course credit for studying Brazilian Portuguese at Caminhos. Through our academic partnerships, some U.S. universities recognize Caminhos for credit. We recommend contacting your study abroad or international office to start the approval process. Please keep in mind that credit approval ultimately depends on your home institution.

Here is a partial list of universities that have awarded course credit for the Caminhos study:

Westminster University
Carleton College
Stanford University
Saint Mary’s College

Even if your university is not listed, it may still be possible to receive academic credit for studying Brazilian Portuguese at Caminhos. The final decision always lies with your home university, and requirements may vary from institution to institution. Caminhos is happy to collaborate with universities by providing course syllabi, learning objectives, assessments, exams, and grading information when needed. Requirements

Portuguese courses are available to applicants who meet basic academic eligibility requirements and are in good academic standing at their current or most recent institution. This includes:

Current university students in the United States
University graduates
High school graduates who have not yet started a university program
Applicants who have not previously completed the same Portuguese course for academic credit at a U.S. university

To be considered for this program, applications should be submitted at least one month before the intended course start date.

What is the Procedure?

APPLY
Apply to study with Caminhos, and remember to let us know that you are interested in our Academic Credit Program.
CONFIRM
We may ask you to provide documentation so we can confirm your eligibility with our School of Record.
PAY
Payment is required at least 30 days before the course start date. Academic credit through our School of Record is subject to an additional cost.
STUDY
Study Portuguese for the length of time that fits your goals and strengthen your language skills through immersion.
TRANSCRIPT
After completing the course, your results are reviewed by our School of Record. If all academic requirements are met, the corresponding credits will be issued based on your original credit request.
RECEIVE
After you return home, the School of Record will issue your official transcript and academic documentation directly to you. You can then submit these documents to your home university to request academic credit for your Portuguese studies.
